Umno's three VPs will concentrate on their main duties

KUALA LUMPUR:The three vice-presidents of Umno will now concentrate on their original duties now that they are no longer state liaison chiefs, party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said.

He added party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has directed all the state chiefs to provide reports on their respective states.

Tengku Adnan said the three vice-presidents - Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi would focus on their original duties, including disciplinary and constitution amendment, training and membership and voter recruitment bureaus respectively.

"The Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister will remain as the Selangor state liaison chief and Federal Territory chief respectively.

"This is to ensure that the Barisan Nasional will regain Selangor and the Federal Territory from the opposition in the next general election," he said here on Monday. Tengku Adnan also announced some changes in the post of several deputy state liaison chiefs.

Among them were former Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, who replaces Datuk Zahidi Zainol Abidin as the state deputy Umno liaison chief. Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir is now the deputy Umno liaison chief for Kedah.
